Der Auerberg liegt im Vorland der Ammergauer und Allgäuer Alpen und ist eine Aussichtsloge erster Güte. Von seinem 1055 m hohen Gipfel bieten sich herrliche Ausblicke über das sanft gewellte Ostallgäuer Alpenvorland mit seinen vielen Dörfern und Weilern und weiter zur Kulisse der Ammergauer, Tannheimer und Allgäuer Alpen. Seine Kuppe wird von der Wallfahrtskirche St. Georg gekrönt. Der Auerberg wurde bereits im Jahr 13 n. Chr. von den Römern besiedelt. Viele Schautafeln und Erlebnisstationen machen die römische Vergangenheit nacherlebbar. Die leichte Wanderung verläuft größtenteils über angenehme Wald- und Wiesenpfade und beinhaltet nur mäßige Steigungen.
